Client Need:

 

Client had an existing optical system with poor optical performance that was difficult to manufacture.   The objective of our involvement was to study the existing system, make recommendations for improvements, and generate the development plan and implementation strategy to be successful. 3-D developed trade-off studies, risk mitigation strategies, proposed cost reduction strategies and gave numerous technical presentations and technical papers.

 

3-D Engineering Solution:


3-D Engineering was brought in during the Alpha phase to redesign the 6X beam expander, final focus lens flexure, beam delivery system, and the counter-balance system to ensure the patient interface is properly and safely positioned during the procedure.


Results:


Used during LASIK, the IntraLase laser replaces the handheld microkeratome blade traditionally used during surgery. The IntraLase FS laser is the first bladeless and most accurate modality for corneal flap creation available today.
